A Sri Lankan citizen employed in Feydhoo has converted to Islam, joining an increasing group of expatriates and tourists who have adopted the religion while in the Maldives.

This week, Jayasingha Arachchige Waruna Prabath Sadaruwan, an employee at Naya Salon in Feydhoo, officially embraced Islam. After his conversion, he has taken on the name Abdullah Adam.

A video shared on social media captures the moment of his conversion within a mosque in Feydhoo. In the video, a man from the Maldives leads him in reciting the Shahada, which is the Islamic declaration of faith. While the words are spoken, Abdullah Adam reiterates the testimony and greets the witness.

The announcement of his conversion was shared on social media.

His conversion occurs just days after a woman tourist from Northern Ireland accepted Islam while on holiday in the Maldives, highlighting the nation’s increasing reputation as a destination for spiritual contemplation and change.

The Maldives has historically embraced individuals from various backgrounds, and these experiences continue to underscore the personal stories of those who discover faith while residing or traveling here.
