A new temporary mosque has been constructed in Gaza, Palestine, funded by contributions from Maldivian citizens.

The non-profit Khidhumaiy, based in the Maldives, reports that they have constructed seven temporary mosques in Gaza through contributions from citizens of the Maldives.

The seventh one was opened on Friday evening.

In a statement on Saturday, Khidhumaiy mentioned that the goal of constructing the mosque is to provide chances for Palestinians to worship together. Along with serving for prayers, the mosque will serve to educate children on the Holy Quran.

The NGO stated that their team in Gaza is operating in dangerous conditions, yet they are resolute in delivering humanitarian assistance on behalf of the Maldivian people.

Khidhumaiy stated that the mosque projects are being executed with great transparency, with daily updates accessible on the NGO's social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and others.

The NGO portrays the mosques as a representation of the affection Maldivians hold for the Palestinian people, reflecting the strong Islamic bonds shared by both nations.

Since October 2023, Israel's attacks have resulted in over 72,000 fatalities and have led Gaza into a humanitarian crisis.

The UN projected that more than 90 percent of residential structures in Gaza have been harmed or obliterated since the conflict started, with hundreds of thousands of uprooted Palestinians compelled to reside in tents and various temporary accommodations.

Since the "ceasefire" was implemented in October of last year, over 600 Palestinians have died in Israeli assaults.

Israeli troops have entirely demolished 835 mosques and harmed another 180 mosques.

This has compelled Palestinians to assemble for group prayers this Ramadan in the remnants of mosques or temporary prayer areas constructed from tarpaulins and wood.
