Dhidhoo reclamation finished 50 days prior to airport construction

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has declared that the land reclamation in HA is now finished. Dhidhoo, an initiative designed to support the establishment of an airport and additional crucial infrastructure in the atoll.


In a post on X, the President mentioned that the dredger reached Dhidhoo on 3 January 2026, with reclamation starting the next day. The task was finished on 23 February, resulting in a total duration of 50 days. A total of 112 hectares of land has been recovered, equating to 5.49 million cubic metres of sand.


The reclamation project was awarded to MTCC on 19 April 2024.


While visiting Dhidhoo in late January of last year, President Muizzu informed the residents that creating an airport in Dhidhoo was a crucial element of the government’s regional development strategy. He promised that the project would be finished quickly and stated he would come back to the island to launch the airport on its inaugural flight.



Dhidhoo is situated around 15–20 minutes by boat from Hanimaadhoo International Airport.
