A 16-year-old boy from the Maldives, who was riding as a passenger on a motorcycle in a severe accident on Boduthakurufaanu Magu in Male’ City, has died.
The Police reported that the incident occurred around 1:30am early Wednesday near the traffic signals on Boduthakurufaanu Magu when the motorbike, driven at high speed, lost control and went onto the sidewalk.
The authorities verified that the motorcycle was operated by a 19-year-old Maldivian male, with a 16-year-old boy riding as a passenger. Both individuals were swiftly taken to the hospital for treatment; however, police confirmed this morning that the 16-year-old has died from his injuries.
The authorities observed that the motorcycle operator lacked a valid permit to operate vehicles of that type.
Exceeding the speed limit remains a primary factor in accidents in the Maldives, with numerous cases leading to deaths, especially among the youth.
