Longtime actor and director Nimal has passed away

Veteran Maldivian actor and director Ahmed Nimal died on Thursday.


Nimal was brought to ADK Hospital on the evening of the final day of last year after experiencing a stroke. He was subsequently moved to Dharumavantha Hospital.


Nimal passed away at 6:50 am this morning. At the time of his passing, he was 62 years old.


Nimal is seen as one of the most adaptable personalities in the Maldivian film sector, with a career that includes acting, directing, editing, writing, and producing. He has directed numerous notable films, such as Zalzala, Valoabi Engeynama, Khalas, among others.


He is also highly regarded for his versatility in acting, having taken on various lead roles and notable father-figure characters. Some of his prominent performances include roles in Veerana, Niuma, Mihashin Furaana Dhaandhen, and Neyngi Yaaru Vakivy.


His most acclaimed recent performance occurred in the successful 2023 film Loabi Vevijje.



Nimal’s sole child, Mohamed Jumayyil, is likewise a notable actor in the Maldivian film sector.
