According to data published by the Maldives Police Service on Tuesday, traffic accidents in the Male' area rose during the first week of Ramadan compared to the same timeframe last year.
Between February 18–24, the initial week of Ramadan this year, police documented 107 accidents. During the same week last year, there were 90 reported accidents.
This year, Majeedhee Magu had the most accidents, with 14 recorded, while Sinamale' Bridge and Highway followed closely with 17 accidents. These are still some of the busiest and most traffic-heavy routes in the capital.
The total number of accidents on Ameenee Magu was 8, whereas Hulhumale' Phase I recorded 14 accidents. An additional 16 accidents were recorded in Hulhumale' Phase II, with 9 events categorized as occurring in other areas.
The fewest cases were recorded around the Local Market area, with just 2 accidents happening during that time.
Authorities have urged drivers to reduce speed, remain vigilant, and show patience while traveling during Ramadan to avoid additional incidents.
