Man dies after Safari sinks near Malé

A passenger rescued from a sinking safari vessel has passed away.


Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) said it received reports of a safari sinking 4 nautical miles off Thilafushi sland on Sunday morning. 17 people were aboard the vessel, Handy Cruise, at the time of the incident. The Coast Guard rescued all passengers on the vessel and transported them to the capital, Male'. Seven of them were taken to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital for treatment after their health deteriorated.


According to IGMH, the deceased is a 41-year-old male foreigner. The remaining patients are still receiving treatment, the official said.
