The Mayor of Male' City, Adam Azim, states that the council now considers mosque maintenance a daily duty and will ensure that religious issues do not become "secondary" in their efforts.
Speaking on Sunday, Azim stated that mosque cleaning, which was previously done once a month or mainly during Ramadan, has now been changed to a daily scheduled activity. He stated that the council has prioritized religious services and will maintain this focus.
Azim emphasized the swift finalization and reopening of the Male' Cemetery Mosque, a location he stated is strongly linked to the community. He mentioned that persistent problems like flooding within mosques during heavy rainfall have now been addressed.
The mayor expressed his belief that considerable effort remains, stating he has tackled mosque-related issues “every single day” in the last two years.
“This is an ongoing process.” “Things can’t be organized if this doesn’t keep happening,” Azim stated.
The council states that initiatives are in progress to enhance the quality of mosques and foster a more pleasant atmosphere for worshippers. All mosques managed by the council are now consistently overseen, with maintenance and cleaning conducted as necessary.
In the past year, over 500 mosques in Male', Hulhumale', and Villimale' were renovated as a component of the council's enhanced maintenance initiative.
