The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has declared that Thursday will be recognized as the 30th day of Ramadan, affirming that Eid al-Fitr will take place on Friday.

The ministry stated that the Shawwal moon will not be sighted in the Maldives or any Arab or Islamic nation on Wednesday, which means Thursday will mark the last day of fasting for this year.

Traditionally, if the moon isn’t observed on the 29th night, the month will total 30 days. This year, celestial predictions and local assessments suggest that the Shawwal crescent won't be sighted on Wednesday, resulting in the formal announcement of a 30-day Ramadan.

The government has announced that the final 10 days of Ramadan will be public holidays, a measure implemented this year. Due to Eid occurring right after, Maldivians will experience a prolonged holiday season.

Government offices are set to reopen on Monday, March 23.
