74 child abuse cases reported last month

Last month, the Ministry of Family Development reported 74 instances of child abuse.


Statistics published on Wednesday indicate that the most frequently reported type of abuse was child neglect, with 21 instances, comprising 12 cases of boys and nine of girls.


 


Other documented instances consist of:


13 instances of sexual assault


12 instances of physical attack


11 instances of emotional distress


9 instances of children observing domestic violence


2 instances of verbal mistreatment


1 instance of child pornography


1 incident of coercion or extortion


1 incident of harassment


1 instance of sexual grooming


1 instance of different mistreatment


 


The ministry noted 18 incidents associated with child behavior problems, with the majority involving school refusal.


Additionally, 33 cases related to families were reported, with child care issues being among the most common.


 


Supplementary statistics:


48 instances of domestic and gender-based violence


21 instances concerning support and aid


8 instances related to social support and medical services


 


As of the 28th of the previous month, there were 152 children in state care.



The helpline of the ministry registered 1,802 calls in that timeframe, while 82 individuals received counselling services and 57 people were given psychosocial support.
