Foreign Minister Abdullah Khaleel stated that the government is considering purchasing oil from nations other than Oman.
During a press conference hosted by the special cabinet committee yesterday (March 29), Khaleel mentioned that the government was exploring additional avenues for importing essential food items.
“Negotiations with multiple nations have commenced as part of initiatives to investigate further options for the Maldives to guarantee a steady supply of crucial goods including food, fuel, and medicine,” Khaleel stated.
Iran recently targeted Oman's Salalah port along with various oil storage and processing sites. Specialists think that the Maldives might struggle to buy oil from Oman soon.
Khaleel remarked that advancements have been achieved in talks regarding the acquisition of oil from a foreign nation. However, he did not mention the nation.
He stated that importing oil to the Maldives poses no challenges. The minister also guaranteed that there will be a continuous import of oil and gas.
