Eva Abdulla, the former Deputy Speaker of the parliament, stated that the government is aware that the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has already secured victory in Saturday's local council elections and the referendum regarding the merger of presidential and parliamentary elections.

During a campaign event in Fuvahmulah last night (March 31), Eva stated that two things have become evident from her trip to the islands in Addu, Huvadhu atoll, and Fuvahmulah.

"The administration recognizes that the MDP has already secured this victory," she stated.

She mentioned that citizens are unwilling to vote for the government due to its inability to meet the commitments made to them during the last two and a half years. Examining Fuvahmulah by itself, she noted that none of the government’s promises have been fulfilled.

Eva stated that it is evident that President Mohamed Muizzu has not delivered on his commitments to enhance the deco chamber, airport, and hospital to a tertiary level, along with other pledges to Fuvahmulah.

Voicing worries about the nation’s economic condition, she mentioned that the administration is squandering funds even though it must settle USD 500 million in sukuk and USD 1.5 billion in debt by 2026.

"When Muslims were being slaughtered from Iran to Gaza to Beirut, the government chose to commemorate Eid by decorating with lights and squandering resources." A government focused solely on campaigning and boosting unnecessary expenditures is urging us to combine the two elections and grant them greater authority. "That is not possible," Eva stated.

"This kind of government should not be granted additional authority," Eva stated, urging the public to reject it in the referendum on April 4.
