On Tuesday, authorities revealed the capture of two individuals linked to an effort to illegally bring more than two kilograms of hashish oil into the nation.

The confirmation of the arrests follows a day after Maldives Customs Service revealed it thwarted a bid to smuggle 2.17 kilos of hashish oil through the Velana International Airport on April 1.

Police reported that Customs detained and transferred two Indian women associated with the drugs, who were later arrested by the agency.

The suspects were identified by the police as:

  • Ulfath Rasool, 23 years old, from India.

  • Jennifer Paul, 34, India

The police stated that both were placed in police custody for 15 days when brought before a court.

The drugs confiscated in the operation are valued at approximately MVR 1.7 million.

The police are conducting additional inquiries into the case.
