The deadline for applying for land and flats under the ‘Housing for All’ policy has been extended by the government until the end of May, the second extension since the application process began.
The Housing Ministry declared on Monday that the extension pertains to requests for apartments in Male' City and for specific categories within the Family Housing Programme. These encompass:
- Individuals who did not obtain flat-receipt documents through the Veshifahi or Hiyaa projects and still have not received their flats
- Candidates in the disability category
The ministry has prolonged the deadline for the categories specified in the Rules for Allocating Land for Residential Purposes and the Binnveriyaa Special Scheme. This encompasses those who formerly filed joint applications under Binnveriyaa Category One and are now permitted to submit individual applications.
Moreover, individuals who were initially disqualified from land allocation due to already owning a flat through the Binnveriyaa scheme have now been granted an extension to submit their applications.
The revised deadline extends the application period until the end of May, encompassing all land allocation categories within the Housing Programme.
The due dates were initially postponed in late February, in anticipation of the approaching elections on April 4. Since that time, the government has implemented various modifications to the eligibility requirements, leading to criticism that alterations are being made as deadlines near.
Applications for the initial housing program under the Housing for All initiative commenced on January 18 of the previous year. The government intends to distribute 7,900 apartments and 15,000 parcels of land through the initiative. Among the flats, 4,000 are allocated for residents of Male' City, 1,500 for non-residents, and 2,400 for specific categories.
