A young man has been taken into custody on suspicion of utilizing cryptocurrency to distribute images and videos of child sexual abuse.

Adam Adhlan Latheef, 22, Moonimaage, Th. Vilufushi was detained under a judicial mandate on April 5, after an inquiry by the Family and Child Protection Department. He was held for an initial 15 days in detention, which is due to end on Tuesday.

The police stated that Adhlan was apprehended after an inquiry into a report of child sexual abuse images being sold via a wallet address linked to Binance Exchange.

Authorities discovered that funds were transferred from the wallet to Adhlan’s cryptocurrency account, while forensic examination of his electronic devices revealed an extensive collection of photos and videos, including explicit images of minors.

The police emphasized that the material also featured videos depicting the sexual abuse of children.

The police are conducting additional investigations into the case.
