Fishing activity in the Maldives has decreased significantly in recent weeks, resulting in the state fisheries company Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) running out of smoked fish in its stores.
Several individuals who talked to "Mihaaru News" mentioned that there is presently no smoked fish available in any MIFCO outlets, and customers are being told that the availability date is uncertain.
Concerning this issue, a spokesperson from MIFCO informed "Mihaaru News" that the supply of smoked fish has decreased due to a substantial drop in fishing during this time, impacting production.
"However, as fishing continues to improve, production has become stable." "God willing, smoked fish will be in stock at MIFCO shops again within the next two days," the official stated.
Along with MIFCO, Enzi, the largest private fish product seller in Male', offers smoked fish in limited amounts, restricted to one kilogram per person.
"Enzi isn't offering it for sale either." They hold it within. "When individuals arrive to purchase fish, they bring it out and provide one kilo for each person," stated a customer who visited Enzi for fish.
As fishing has decreased during this time, the price of fish has risen significantly.
Global oil availability has decreased due to the persistent conflict in the Middle East, resulting in higher prices. On social media, worries have also been expressed that northern fishermen are remaining on land because of the expensive fuel required for going out to sea.
The government has guaranteed that the Maldives will not experience a fuel crisis.
