Authorities have advised the community against spreading false stories or videos concerning the demise of a girl residing at the Maldives National University (MNU) hostel Majudhudheen Dhanaal.

The victim has been recognized as an 18-year-old female.

A police report indicates that the 18-year-old passed away at an MNU hostel in Male’ City on Monday night. The service stated it is collaborating with the appropriate authorities to examine every facet of the case and implement necessary measures.

Police noted that they have seen false narratives, unfounded accusations, and videos disseminated on social media and various media outlets. They pointed out that spreading this unverified information not only adds to the suffering of the deceased's family but could also obstruct the ongoing criminal probe.

Consequently, law enforcement has warned the community not to disseminate unverified information.
