Man sentenced to 18 years in prison for sexually abusing person with disabilities

An individual has received an 18-year prison sentence after being convicted of engaging in sexual activities with a male who has disabilities.


The accused has been recognized as Abdulla Waheed Moosa, 58 years old, from Nava, Funaadu, Fuvahmulah City. He faced legal action under the Special Provisions Act for addressing offenders of child sexual abuse.


After a comprehensive examination of the evidence and legal arguments provided, the court issued its ruling on Sunday, declaring Abdulla Waheed Moosa guilty of the charges and sentencing him to 18 years in prison.


After subtracting the one year, seven months, and nine days that Abdulla Waheed Moosa has already been in custody during the trial according to Article 186 of the Criminal Procedure Act, he must serve 16 years, four months, and 21 days in prison.



The Maldives Police Service has reaffirmed its dedication to safeguarding individuals with special needs from such atrocious offenses, noting that they will persist in their efforts to guarantee the safety and security of at-risk persons.
