The Maldives Police Service announced on Thursday that items worth around MVR 130,000 had been retrieved linked to two distinct incidents reported in Sh. Milandhoo during the weekend.
The Police reported a residential burglary that occurred in Milandhoo on Saturday. The stolen goods comprised a 60-inch Skyworth TV, a 65-inch TCL TV, a Gucci Flora perfume worth USD 240, around MVR 3,708, and several other perfumes valued at roughly MVR 6,000. All items that were stolen have now been found and given back to their rightful owner.
On Tuesday, two people were taken into custody related to this case. The individuals have been recognized as Ahmed Azeem, 34, Redrose, Sh. Milandhoo, along with Mohamed Shifau, 29, from Tharividhaage, Sh. Milandhoo. The court has directed that both suspects be held in custody for 10 days.
On Sunday, another incident was reported involving the theft of outboard engine parts at a garage in Milandhoo. The complainant stated that a Yamaha outboard gearbox and its connected propeller were lost, with an estimated worth of more than MVR 120,000.
Further police inquiries revealed that the pilfered parts had been sold to the captain of a ship docked in the Milandhoo lagoon around 14:30 PM on that same day. Reports suggest that the valuable items were sold for MVR 2,500. While searching the vessel, officers discovered the hidden stolen parts in the bilge of the engine room.
Both cases are presently undergoing additional investigation.
