Japan donates MVR 4M worth of equipment to NDMA

The government of Japan has provided equipment valued at USD 4.3 million to the Maldives' National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).


The donation was officially presented by Japan's Ambassador to the Maldives, Ishigami Rumiko, during a ceremony that took place on Sunday. The donation was received on behalf of the authority by NDMA’s CEO, Hisaan Hassan.


The NDMA stated that the aid was given through Japan’s Economic and Social Development Program.


The authority observed that this input will significantly improve firefighting and water drainage abilities, while also bolstering disaster response services on various islands.



The equipment donated consists of fire pumps, water drainage pumps, and various specialized tools designed for disaster relief and emergency response efforts. The overall contribution value of USD 4.3 million is roughly equal to MVR 66 million.
