Ex-PG Hussain Shameem named as legal representative for Easha in inquiry linked to documentary

Hussain Shameem, the former Prosecutor General, has been designated as the legal counsel for Easha Ashraf, whose passport is being retained due to a documentary featuring claims involving President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.


The matter involves a criminal probe conducted by the Maldives Police Service. Easha has prior experience in the President's Office and various ministries. Her passport was confiscated by court order for three months.


Shameem has been assigned to provide legal support for Easha in the case, which has garnered considerable interest in political and media sectors.


Authorities are examining the documentary as an extremely serious matter. Details of the allegations against Easha have not been released yet. Nevertheless, Shameem assured that he would act on her behalf after her passport was confiscated.


Shameem informed Sun that the main duty of defense attorneys is to guarantee an impartial inquiry for their clients.


Shameem possesses significant expertise in criminal matters and has acted as the chief prosecutor for the state.
