Three Sri Lankans to face deportation over liquor and cash bust

Authorities confirmed that three Sri Lankan nationals apprehended with alcohol and a significant amount of cash have been referred to Maldives Immigration for deportation.


The people were recognized as:


- Mahesh Indirajit Silva, age 42


- Kalyani Edirisinghi Appuhamilage, aged 48


- Manjula Kumara Ratnayake Mudiyanse, 50 years old


The apprehensions occurred after a collaborative intelligence-driven operation executed by Counter Narcotics Intelligence and Drug Enforcement on Tuesday. While conducting a raid on a residential site, officers seized 24 bottles (500ml) of suspected alcoholic beverages and a larger vessel thought to contain alcohol as well.


Along with the illegal drugs, law enforcement confiscated more than MVR 38,000 and USD 1,100 in money from the individuals.



The Maldives Police Service announced that the three suspects have been handed over to Maldives Immigration to initiate the deportation procedure. As the individuals await their deportation, the police observed that the criminal investigation into the issue continues.
