Traffic accidents up 12% in April

According to statistics released by the police, traffic accidents increased by 12 percent in April compared to the same timeframe last year.


The data indicates that 874 incidents were filed with the police in April. The greatest number of cases were vehicle collisions. In April 2026, there were 240 traffic accidents reported, reflecting a 12.7 percent rise from the 213 accidents recorded in April 2025.


Nonetheless, the incident in April signifies a drop from March, when law enforcement responded to 270 accidents.

Misplaced items: 75 instances


Battery: 37 incidents


Destruction of property: 37 incidents


Sexual crimes: 24 incidents


Violence in the home: 22 incidents


Misappropriation: 16 instances


Theft: 16 incidents


Fraud and imitation: 2 instances


 


The police received notifications of a total of 3,076 traffic accidents in the previous year. This year, there have already been 1,064 accidents – and we are still not even halfway through the year.



Accidents occur most often in Male’ at the Sinamale’ Bridge and along the Hulhumale’ Highway.
