A primary emphasis of the ongoing State visit to Sri Lanka is to address the visa challenges encountered by Maldivians living in Sri Lanka, according to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who expressed optimism that a lasting resolution will be achieved shortly.
Yesterday, the President spoke with the Maldivian diaspora in Sri Lanka, stating that significant progress has been achieved in the past two years to address visa problems, with some advancements noted.
The Sri Lankan government is prioritizing the search for a lasting solution to the problem. "The President stated that our High Commissioner is in communication with the Foreign Ministry regarding this issue."
"The guarantee I received from the Sri Lankan President is that the existing issues regarding the matter emerged several years back." "The problems are being addressed, and we now have confidence that a lasting solution will be discovered," he mentioned.
The President stated that the government is collaborating with appropriate Sri Lankan officials to conclude preparations for this, and associated formal discussions are taking place during the current State visit too.
