Fire engulfs safari boat near Hulhumale', MNDF contains the blaze

A boat used for safaris that was moored in the Hulhumale' lagoon caught fire on Saturday afternoon.


Witnesses and reporters from the Sun present at the location observed the fire erupting on the Emperor Explorer, anchored outside the Hulhumale' lagoon. Dense black smoke was observed rising across the region as the flames engulfed the ship.


Authorities stated they got the report at approximately 16:55 on Saturday.


MNDF Fire and Rescue crews are actively engaged in managing the fire situation.


Following the fire, two crew members of the Emperor Explorer were transported to Hulhumale' Hospital for treatment, but it's thought that no one sustained severe burn injuries. Witnesses informed Sun that the fire grew quickly and dense smoke covered the region, noticeable from far away.



The ship incurred significant damage during the event, and the cause is under investigation by both the police and MNDF.
