The Maldives Government has announced May 24 and 25 as extra public holidays, prolonging the upcoming Eid al-Adha vacation to an entire week.

The choice was made following the directive of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, as stated by the President’s Office.

In a statement, the President’s Office announced that extra holidays were provided to give citizens more opportunity to enjoy Eid and spend time with their families during the festive season.

The Day of Arafah for this year, taking place before Eid al-Adha, is on May 26, with the official Eid holiday period set from May 27 to May 30.

The President’s Office also stated that government offices will restart operations after the Eid holidays end.

The prolonged holiday season is anticipated to result in heightened domestic travel and family reunions throughout the Maldives during a major religious observance in the Islamic calendar.
