President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has revealed intentions to limit access to certain social media platforms for individuals under 16 years old, with implementation planned to be completed within the upcoming year.

The declaration was made during a press conference at the President's Office, where the President highlighted the administration's initiatives to tackle increasing issues regarding online safety and the welfare of young people.

The President stated that the choice was influenced by worries regarding problems like online grooming, cyberbullying, and access to materials viewed as inconsistent with the nation's Islamic principles.

The initiative aims to enhance safeguards for children while fostering a more secure online space.

The President highlighted that this action does not signify a step back from digital transformation or technological progress.

Rather, it is a component of a larger strategy aimed at promoting human development while safeguarding young individuals from new threats in an ever more connected world.

He emphasized the Administration's dedication to the Maldives 2.0 agenda, where digitalization efforts are being fast-tracked within government bodies to enhance efficiency, transparency, and accountability.

The President remarked that enhanced digital integration could minimize unnecessary human involvement in administrative tasks and decrease the impact of personal bias.

Alongside the proposed social media limitations, the President revealed additional initiatives designed to strengthen Islamic principles in public areas.

Plans are being established to allow daily prayers at sports venues nationwide, and new rules are anticipated to be implemented soon that will require sports events to halt during prayer times.

The suggested actions are a component of a broader governmental initiative aimed at harmonizing technological advancement with social and cultural concerns.
