The Maldives Police Service has initiated an inquiry into a situation where a man reportedly threatened to sell his former wife to another person.

In a media statement on Friday evening, the Police verified that a complaint was filed earlier today at the Hulhumalé Phase 2 Police Station by a woman who reportedly faced threats from her ex-husband.

The complainant stated that the suspect warned he would sell her to someone else.

The Police stressed that there are no claims of sexual abuse related to the case. They also specified that there is no proof or assertion suggesting that the woman was indeed sold or that any type of human trafficking exchange occurred.

Officials are still looking into the issue.
