President of the Maldives Development Alliance (MDA), Ahmed Siyam Mohamed, MP for Meedhoo, has urged for enhanced actions to protect the environment and their more rigorous implementation.
In a message marking World Environment Day, Siyam sent his regards and called the day a chance to contemplate significantly on the ecosystems around us and gain vital insights from them. He stressed that the environment is the basis of human well-being and prosperity.
Siyam emphasized that any type of disregard for environmental protection is intolerable, expressing worry that the negative effects of human actions on the environment are becoming more and more apparent.
In this context, he pointed out several ongoing environmentally detrimental practices, such as dumping waste into the sea, extraction of sand and coral from shores, deforestation along the coast, and actions that harm coral reefs and marine ecosystems.
Consequently, Siyam encouraged every citizen to safeguard these natural resources. He urged people to avoid actions that damage the environment and to prioritize environmental conservation personally.
Siyam expressed, "I genuinely hope that stronger actions are implemented at a national scale to safeguard the environment and that the appropriate authorities guarantee the comprehensive enforcement of these actions."
He ended his message by asking for the Maldives to be protected from environmental disasters and for the country to enjoy a clean and healthy environment.
Siyam’s appeal arises amid ongoing reports of environmentally damaging activities throughout the nation. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recently expressed worries about complaints claiming that environmental protections are being neglected in various development projects currently happening in the Maldives.
