Police have confirmed that a man tragically died while diving to catch baitfish near GDh. Gadhdhoo.

According to the Maldives Police Service, a report was received around 5:40 a.m. on Sunday about a crew member who went missing from a fishing vessel operating in the area.

A search was initiated following the report, and the missing man was eventually found underwater and brought to Gadhdhoo.

The Gadhdhoo Health Centre informed police that the man had already passed away by the time he arrived at the facility.

The deceased has been identified as 44-year-old Ishaq Rasheed from Gadhdhoo.

Police stated that the incident occurred while he was diving to collect baitfish for pole-and-line fishing methods.

The circumstances of the incident are currently under investigation.
