Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam left for China on an official trip on Wednesday.
The Foreign Ministry announced that Iruthisham is on a two-day trip, where she will participate in the China–South Asia Cooperation Forum in Yunnan Province.
Iruthisham will present a keynote speech at the forum and will also participate in the 10th China–South Asia Expo. The ministry announced that she will engage with top officials from Yunnan Province and Maldivian students residing in the area.
Accompanying her on the visit are Additional Secretary Amin Javid Faizal and Director Mariam Bassama Farooq.
China is among the Maldives' major development partners, and the government has worked diligently to uphold strong relations with Beijing. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu chose China as his initial official foreign destination after assuming office.
Iruthisham was named Foreign Minister on April 14. Her initial international journey in the position was to India.
