A police officer participating in a maritime operation has been discovered deceased.

A police spokesperson stated that Senior Sergeant Ahmed Asif was a member of the team on ‘Police Launch 57’ engaged in an operation at sea in the early hours of Thursday.

Asif disappeared during the operation, leading the police to initiate search and rescue activities.

He was subsequently discovered lifeless beneath the water.

The police reported that Asif's body was transported to the AA. Mathiveri Health Center confirmed that he was already dead upon arrival.

The police have not revealed any details about the operation Asif participated in, nor the conditions surrounding his disappearance.

The spokesperson mentioned that the police department was offering essential assistance to Asif's grieving family and his coworkers.

The police are investigating the case.
