Maldives welcomes US–Iran MoU, calling it a key step toward peace and stability

The Maldives government has endorsed the accord established in the Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran, characterizing it as a significant advancement in resolving lingering matters between the nations, such as actions to secure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.


In a statement, the Government noted that the Maldives views the development as an important move towards decreasing tensions and promoting peace, security, and stability both in the region and globally.


The Maldives conveyed gratitude for the dedication demonstrated by both sides in opting for dialogue and diplomacy to settle differences and tackle matters of shared interest.


The Government also praised the positive mediation initiatives carried out by the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the State of Qatar, other Gulf nations, and regional and international allies in fostering dialogue, encouraging de-escalation, and aiding peaceful interactions between the involved parties.



Reiterating its backing for dialogue, diplomacy, and international law, the Maldives expressed hope that this favorable progress will aid in fostering greater cooperation, sustainable economic development, and enduring peace and stability in the area.
