One of the two individuals apprehended from GA. A resident of Vilingili has been imprisoned pending his trial for allegedly employing minors to sell drugs, while another individual was freed from police custody.
Mohamed Athoof Habeeb, 25, and Mohamed Raif Hussain, 20, were apprehended on May 28 during a coordinated operation by the Vilingili Police and Counter-Narcotics aimed at individuals who involve minors in drug-related offenses.
Athoof was first placed in police custody for 15 days, while Raif was detained for 10 days.
On Tuesday, a police representative stated that when presented to the court for a remand extension, the judge ordered Athoof to remain in police custody while awaiting his trial outcome, but allowed Raif to be released on conditions.
The authorities suspect Athoof and Raif to be the leaders of a drug operation located in Vilingili.
The police executed searches at four locations during the operation and confiscated 66.92 grams of narcotics – 53.91 grams of brown sugar and 13.01 grams of methamphetamine.
The police indicate that the operation was carried out to help prevent the exploitation of children in crimes related to drugs.
The Vilingli Police Station is conducting additional investigations into the case.
