Early Wednesday morning, a family of six, including two children, was hospitalized following a fire at a government-issued apartment in Hulhumale’ Phase I.
The Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) reported that the fire occurred in a ground-floor unit, Flat 141, and was reported to the Hulhumale’ Fire Station around 4:32 am.
Firefighters responded immediately and managed to extinguish the blaze by approximately 4:58 am. The MNDF indicated that the fire started from an electric water kettle in the kitchen.
Six individuals were taken to the hospital due to smoke inhalation. A police spokesperson told Sun that among those hospitalized were two children, and all six were reported to be in stable condition.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) stated that they are working to provide humanitarian support to the family, including arrangements for temporary accommodation.
