A residence in Addu City has been shut down following a court order due to allegations that it was being used to facilitate illegal drug activities.
The property, known as 'Ummeedhu' and situated in S. Maradhoofeydhoo, was mandated to be closed for 90 days by the Magistrate Court of the island on Monday. The order was issued under the provisions of the Drugs Act.
In a statement, the Maldives Police Service warned that entering or leaving a property under such a court order without proper authorization during the designated period is a criminal offense. They also stated that legal action will be taken against anyone who enters the premises without permission or damages the property while the order is in effect.
The police expressed gratitude to the public for their assistance in efforts to combat drug trafficking and related offenses in Addu City. They reaffirmed that operations will continue to identify and take action against other suspected locations involved in similar activities, in accordance with the law.
This closure of 'Ummeedhu' is the second such court-ordered shutdown in Addu this month. On June 8, a house called 'Laamiyaageaage' in S. Hithadhoo was also ordered closed following allegations of involvement in drug use and trafficking.
Police also confirmed that an individual was arrested on Sunday for entering the Hithadhoo property while the court order was in effect.
