A man was arrested on Saturday after he returned to a shop in Hulhumale’ Phase II brandishing a knife, having previously threatened and assaulted the staff there.

The event allegedly occurred at a store situated in MPL Tower B, in Hulhumale’ Phase II.

Both events were recorded by CCTV cameras placed inside and outside the premises.

The time stamp on the CCTV recording indicates the initial incident occurred at approximately 04:30 am, when a man with long hair dressed in a black shirt and blue jeans faced the cash counter, threatening two female cashiers and two male employees.

He was seen on video hitting one of the male employees and knocking down the monitor at the counter, then exiting the store, only to quickly return and fix the monitor.

A second video shared on social media depicts the same individual coming back to the store dressed in a different shirt and holding a knife.

A group of civilians detained him, assaulted him, and then turned him over to the police.

The authorities affirm that both incidents were carried out by the same individual, who is now in custody.

He was referred to merely as a male from the Maldives.

The police stated they were looking into the assault involving a sharp-edged weapon as a grave offense.
