The Maldives has urged the international community to enhance grant-based funding for climate adaptation.
The appeal was presented by Dr. Salma Rasheed, the Maldives' Permanent Representative to the UN office in Geneva, as she spoke on behalf of the nation during the Annual Panel Discussion regarding the negative effects of climate change on human rights.
In her speech, Salma emphasized the unequal difficulties encountered by vulnerable nations like the Maldives.
She urged every country to implement the Multidimensional Vulnerability Index – the UN standard aimed at evaluating structural vulnerability and resilience.
Salma also urged nations to increase grant-based adaptation funding and guarantee the complete capitalization and replenishment of multilateral climate funds, including the Fund for Addressing Loss and Damage.
The panel discussion was a key initiative conducted during the June sessions of the UN Human Rights Council.
