According to data provided by two government hospitals, the incidence of injuries among individuals at construction sites in the Male' City region has increased by 65 percent in the last four years.

The details were disclosed in answers directed to North Galolhu MP Mohamed Ibrahim (Kudu), who had asked about injuries related to construction. A communication from Male' City Group of Hospitals CEO Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem indicated that injuries have consistently risen each year.

Between 2022 and last year, a total of 458 individuals received treatment for construction-related injuries at Hulhumale' Hospital and IGMH. The data indicates a steady increase.

Statistics show that in 2024, IGMH handled the most cases, whereas Hulhumale' Hospital noted its peak in 2025.

Analysis of cases managed during the last four years:

2022: 90 individuals

2023: 87 individuals

2024: 132 individuals

2025: 149 individuals

Even with increasing figures, hazardous construction methods continue to pose a significant risk.

Last Saturday, two employees sustained injuries after they fell from a building that was being constructed on Majeedhee Magu. One has been released, while the other is still being treated in the hospital.

The Male' City Council found negligence in the situation and imposed a fine of MVR 5,000 on the accountable parties.
