A plaintiff has not succeeded in his pursuit of USD 5 million in damages from Tree Top Hospital for claims that his uvula was severed during a tonsil operation.

In the beginning of 2023, a man from the Maldives had tonsil surgery at Tree Top Hospital. Following the procedure, he stated that the hospital had taken out his uvula and initiated a lawsuit for compensation. In his assertion, he requested more than MVR 1 million and over USD 4 million in restitution.

The Civil Court's ruling states that the issue pertains to physical harm resulting from claimed medical negligence. The decision was announced on Wednesday.

The ruling indicated that the case could not move forward due to the failure to meet the procedural standards required for medical negligence claims.

The Civil Court reached a decision in the case on Wednesday. It had previously been presented to the court, but the plaintiff has not succeeded in any effort to advance the claim.
