Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan has urged the Maldives Police Service to enhance its efforts against illegal drugs, labeling the nation's drug issue as the foremost danger to national security and stability.
Addressing the graduation event for the 42nd Police Initial Training Course at the National College of Policing and Law Enforcement, Ihusaan stated that drug abuse has devastated lives, impacted families, and persistently fuels organized crime nationwide.
"The primary task we have assigned to the Maldives Police Service, which requires utmost determination and must be effectively fulfilled, is to protect the Maldives from the scourge of drugs," the Minister remarked.
The minister stated that the police have achieved considerable advancements in fighting drug-related issues in the last two and a half years.
He further conveyed assurance that the initiatives of the newly appointed officers would contribute to achieving the lasting solution the public anticipates before the conclusion of the ongoing presidential term.
Minister Ihusaan also cautioned that criminal activities are growing more advanced, with perpetrators utilizing technology for financial dealings, cyber fraud, and laundering money through digital currencies.
He stated that officers need to enhance their abilities via contemporary education and specialized training to stay aligned with these advancing threats.
The minister emphasized that the trust of the public is the most important asset for a police officer and encouraged officers to perform their responsibilities with honesty, integrity, and humility.
"The moment their integrity is undermined is the moment they lose the right to don the police uniform," stated the Minister.
He finished by urging officers to enforce the law impartially and stay dedicated to safeguarding the nation and its citizens.
