The Maldives has received over one million tourists this year, although arrivals are still under last year's numbers, based on the most recent data from the Ministry of Tourism.
The nation hit the one-million-visitor milestone on June 20, which was later than the previous year.
Total arrivals have decreased by 5% relative to the same timeframe in 2025, as the Maldives now welcomes roughly 5,700 visitors daily.
China continues to be the primary source market for the country, contributing 169,798 visitors, which represents 16.2% of overall arrivals.
The majority of Chinese tourists preferred resorts, while almost one-third opted for guesthouses.
Russia occupied the second position with 150,978 tourists, trailing behind the United Kingdom with 86,795, Italy with 74,049, and Germany with 67,379.
The ministry’s data further indicates that resorts remain predominant in the tourism sector, accommodating 72% of all tourists, whereas 23% chose to stay in guesthouses.
Women travelers aged 25 to 34 continue to be the biggest visitor demographic.
The Maldives presently offers 67,868 active tourist accommodations within 1,297 hospitality venues.
The government aims for 2.5 million visitors by year’s end.
Nonetheless, continuous interruptions to worldwide travel, including the effects of the conflict in the Middle East, have sparked worries about the achievability of that objective.
Even with the slower growth, the government has expressed that its top priority is to ensure that total tourist arrivals do not drop below last year's figures.
