On Monday, police issued a public appeal regarding the increasing number of vehicles parking on pedestrian sidewalks in Hulhumale’. The densely populated Male’ area is experiencing significant traffic congestion, with limited parking options leading many drivers to park illegally.
In a post on X Monday night, police highlighted their observation of a rise in sidewalk parking incidents in Hulhumale’. The appeal comes amid ongoing parking shortages in the Male’ region.
A study conducted by the Islamic University of Maldives (IUM) revealed that the capital exceeds its ideal vehicle capacity by over 30,000 cars.
In June, Minister for Economic Development, Transport, and Trade Mohamed Saeed stated that the government aims to find a workable solution to this issue by 2028. He assured the public that the government is actively engaged in various efforts to address the problem.
