Water and electricity services have now been established at Zone A of Malé North Harbour, following the completion of utility installation work in the area.

Zone A, situated along Boduthakurufaanu Magu, had been without water and electricity since road expansion activities finished in February. Installation of the utility networks started in March.

Although water and electricity meters had been installed, the services had not been activated for over four months.

The absence of utility services at the harbor was highlighted in a series of reports released this week by Dhauru, along with concerns raised by boat operators about conditions at North Harbour.

In response to these reports, Galolhu North MP Mohamed Ibrahim called for senior officials from Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) to be summoned before a parliamentary committee to address issues affecting the harbor.

MPL activated the water and electricity services at Zone A on Tuesday evening during a site visit by MPL CEO Hussain Shafeeg.

In a post on X, MPL acknowledged that the area had previously lacked water and electricity services. The company stated that completing the project and starting utility services would help improve conditions for vessels and crews operating at Malé North Harbour.
