Maldives and India talk about enacting FTA and enhancing economic connections

The Maldivian Economic Development and Trade Minister, Mohamed Saeed, engaged in high-level talks with Indian Commerce and Industry Minister, Piyush Goyal, focusing on executing the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and enhancing economic ties between the two countries.


During his official trip to India, made at the request of Minister Goyal, Minister Saeed took part in comprehensive bilateral discussions aimed at improving economic collaboration, trade, and investment. Reflecting on the meeting, Minister Saeed characterized the conversations as "productive and constructive."


He emphasized three main areas of emphasis: the current discussions concerning the Maldives-India Free Trade Agreement, the completion of a Bilateral Investment Treaty, and various new projects designed to enhance trade and economic cooperation.


Minister Saeed added that these initiatives align with the mutual vision of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to enhance the collaboration between the Maldives and India through advantageous economic development.


He conveyed his appreciation for the generous hospitality provided by the Indian government and reaffirmed his dedication to turning these talks into concrete results benefiting the citizens of both nations.



The execution of the FTA is anticipated to improve market access, lower trade barriers, and generate substantial new chances for businesses and investors in both India and the Maldives.
