Violent clash ensues following PNC's internal election voting at Hulhumale' polling station

A fierce confrontation erupted at a Hulhumale’ polling station on Saturday night, soon after the polls closed for the ruling PNC’s internal elections.


Videos shared on social media show that the altercation took place within Kaamil Didi School (KPS) in Hulhumale’ Phase II.


The video depicts two groups involved in intense verbal conflicts before the scenario intensified into a physical brawl. Chairs were additionally tossed during the confrontation.


Two officers at the location tried to step in, but the clash persisted for several minutes.


The event occurred on the same evening that PNC Chairperson and Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla informed reporters that the election process was happening smoothly and peacefully nationwide.


Law enforcement has not provided any remarks regarding the event yet.



The internal elections of the PNC are taking place to choose individuals for different constituency and steering committee roles. Over 2,000 individuals will be chosen for party positions.
