On Sunday, the Maldives' first direct Umrah flight from Addu City to Saudi Arabia took off, carrying 260 pilgrims.

The flight was operated by a Maldivian Airbus A330 aircraft departing from Gan International Airport.

This new service was launched through a collaboration between Maldivian, the national airline, and Umrah tour operator Travellers Maldives.

In a statement, Maldivian described the launch as more than just the addition of a new route, calling it a significant milestone that opens up further opportunities for the airline.

Transport and Civil Aviation Minister Mohamed Ameen also expressed his support, stating that the direct flight would make travel more convenient for residents of Addu City and the southern atolls.

Ameen also posted on X, thanking President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu for facilitating the introduction of the direct Umrah service.
