Police arrest two Bangladeshis with liquor stash in Male' City

Authorities in Male' City have detained two Bangladeshi citizens on allegations of unlawfully possessing, utilizing, and trading in alcohol.


Authorities named the individuals as 21-year-old MD Siam Ahmed and 35-year-old Robel Miah. They were apprehended after a tip indicated that the duo was engaged in selling alcohol in the city.


Officers from the Counter Narcotics Intelligence and Drug Enforcement conducted a search of the apartment where the suspects were residing and found 12 liquor bottles during the operation on Saturday, according to police.


The two individuals have since been transferred to Maldives Immigration for proceedings under the Immigration Act.


Authorities stated that the matter is still being investigated.



The apprehension of expatriates for liquor trafficking has risen notably in recent months, with a considerable proportion of cases involving Bangladeshi citizens.
