According to the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), the Media Village is on track to be completed by the end of this month. HDC informed the state broadcaster PSM that final tasks such as wall painting, installing office partitions, and other minor finishing touches are currently in progress. The corporation aims to finish all remaining work within July.
In this year’s Presidential Statement, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu mentioned that the Media Village is expected to be completed by mid-2026.
The Media Village is being constructed on the ground floor of the Manhattan Grand Hotel, previously known as the City Hotel, located in Hulhumale' Phase 1. The project will provide 34 subsidized office and studio spaces for registered local media organizations.
President Muizzu first announced the Media Village project on May 3, 2024, during a special address on Press Freedom Day. Discussions regarding the project began in early August that year.
The City Hotel property was awarded on August 20, 2024, to World of Business Pvt Ltd, a foreign investment company operating in the Maldives under Dubai-based Deep Sea Food Company. The development plan includes transforming the site into a five-star hotel and establishing several educational institutions, including the Media Village.
