President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced that the redevelopment of Boduthakurufaanu Magu will enhance traffic flow across Malé once the project is finished.

Construction on the northern part of the ring road started in August last year. Valued at approximately MVR 144 million, the project is expected to be completed before the end of this year.

During the President's Office weekly podcast, Pulse, on Friday, Muizzu stated that the completed ring road would facilitate smoother traffic movement throughout the capital.

He explained that the road is being built with two-way lanes around the island, which will help reduce congestion on the inner roads.

"This improved traffic flow will be experienced throughout the entire city of Malé," the President said.

Muizzu further mentioned that the section between Izzudheen Jetty and the Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) area has been finished and will be opened to the public next week.

He also noted that motorcycles parked along the stretch between Nasandhura Hotel and Izzudheen Jetty will be relocated to a reclaimed parking lot with capacity for up to 500 bikes, improving traffic movement along that route.

The President indicated that work on Malé's inner roads will begin after Boduthakurufaanu Magu is completed.

According to Muizzu, funding has been secured from the Chinese government, and preparations for construction are underway. He expects work to start by the end of this year or early next year.

The project will involve asphalt surfacing on some roads and cobblestone paving on others.

Muizzu added that the road development program will also address flooding, drainage, and parking challenges, as well as improve access through narrow streets.

"This project is about to commence. Once finished, God willing, it will bring comfort and peace of mind to all residents of Malé," he concluded.
